Job Description
Starwood is seeking a Digital Application Development Team Lead for Starwood’s digital platform. This position leads a team of developers responsible for the strategic development of the back-end of mission-critical revenue generating guest and associate applications including the branded web, the call center desktop, mobile API, and a suite of applications for meeting planners and attendees. The position is a peer of the application development team lead for the digital channels which has a front-end/UI focus for the same set of applications.
The position directs back-end efforts on channel projects ensuring developers follow best practices, optimize performance, and consider cross-channel implementations and mentors junior developers. The position serves as a high level escalation point for the resolution of complex issues. The position works with BRM's, business analysts, and project managers to define, staff, and deliver projects and enhancements. The position is responsible for technical design and development of complex back-end channel solutions.
Areas of Focus and Responsibility
•Technical solutioning by leading or participating in requirements and design meeting, working closely with the business relationship manager in early stages of projects and enhancements, drawing upon the relevant subject matter experts in the team and elsewhere when appropriate, assigning tech leads to projects, and leading the team to build and leverage the platform on which channel applications are built.
•Staffing and resource management, working with HR, Guidant Group - Starwood’s Master Service Provider and, Accenture, consultants and others to provide a productive, cohesive, and efficient development teams on projects through design, development, and delivery phases.
•Technical leadership through immersion in all existing Digital applications, deep understanding of other applications in the Starwood portfolio, partnership with the architecture team on the strategic road map for each Digital application and the platform, and continuous learning and sharing; implementing best practices for high quality and high performance application development; and lead and resolve critical production issues and project risks; measure, understand, and improve application performance by working closely with the Digital application performance manager.
•Participate in critical situation calls to resolve complex web issues; serve as the release (build/config) manager for web releases; supports the BRM and APM positions by providing resources and solutions.
Key Relationships
•Business relationship manager: development team lead is responsible for assembling a development team and delivering on the projects initiated by the BRM.
•Application performance manager: works closely with the APM to ensure end user experience is measurable and understands the correlation between application performance metrics and key business performance indicators and deliver changes identified to improve these measures.
•Leader and mentor of developers, technical expert representing Starwood on vendor analysis (SME role).
•College Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
•Extensive experience with J2EE as an application developer or architect
•Service oriented architectures
•Ability to research and solve application issues on critical production applications, manage processes and associate relationships in multiple locations, complete software development lifecycle management.
•HTML, JSP, JSF, JavaScript
