Job Title Maintenance Engineer Division Emory Conference Center Hotel Education Vocational Location Atlanta, GA Job Type Full Time Job Description ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Repairs and maintains facility buildings and equipment. Repairs include building and room renovation, plumbing, painting, sheetrock work, electrical, and carpentry. Makes repairs on mechanical, electric and plumbing equipment including furnace, cooling equipment and exhaust fans. Performs preventative maintenance on buildings and equipment. Does custodial work as necessary. Keeps all equipment/property in good repair with a minimum of downtime by providing day-to-day maintenance of the hotel under the direction of engineering management. Assists in energy conservation by observing energy and utilities usage in the hotel and on the grounds; looks for ways to conserve energy; recommends any ideas to the engineering management. Assists in handling emergencies in order to protect our guests and associates, and preserve the building and its systems during the emergency. Must act as quickly and responsibly as possible to return the building to its normal operating status. Maintains communications with supervisors to insure that all needed materials, tools and supplies are available or on order. Follows up on any items that may be on back order. Keeps supervisor updated on assignments. Provides training and technical advice to other engineers as needed or requested. Job Requirements Must be willing and able to work the over night shift (between the hours of 10:30 pm and 7:00 am). EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED preferred, plus two (2) years experience in general maintenance work; or vocational trade school certification plus six (6) months of general maintenance work; or any combination of education and experience which provides the above skills, knowledge and ability. This position requires basic to moderate maintenance skills and aptitude. Previous hotel experience preferred. Must have knowledge of: Methods and materials used in general building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, building and electrical units. The use of common tools and equipment used in general maintenance. Must be able to: Understand and follow instructions on any assigned tasks with the necessary judgment to request assistance and guidance on any job that is beyond their capability and/or experience. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Possess adequate skills for the writing of routine reports, logs and correspondence. Must be able to communicate orally and written in English. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
