Hotel Reception Jobs
A hotel reception job requires individuals to have excellent coordination, problem-solving, query-handling, and communication skills. Typically, a hotel reception job involves: attending to all the needs of the customer/guests, ensuring an efficient service at all times; ensuring the efficient operation of the switchboard; cash handling, dealing with credit card transactions; charging of all goods/ services to customer accounts; liaising with Housekeeping with regard to rooms; and general administration duties.
The ideal candidate for a hotel reception job should: have experience in a similar role; have experience of dealing with a busy switchboard; have previous cash handling experience; have a good standard of education and have a computer qualification; be well-presented; and a good knowledge of Fidelio or other similar hotel package required. Business-level conversational fluency is also required.
Senior executives in a hotel reception job usually have a supervisory role to perform. They act as front of house point of contact dealing with all incoming calls, queries, bookings for rooms, food and beverages etc. They may be even given the responsibility to train hospitality students by helping them develop skills in the area of communication, drafting, and aesthetic in order to prepare them for the professional world.
Some hotel reception executives are also involved in providing knowledge in the area of arrangement and maintenance of reception counter.
