Restaurant General Manager Jobs description

Restaurant general managers are responsible for all restaurant activities. They ensure that the restaurants operate at a profit.

Restaurant general managers ensure that: the most suitably qualified person is appointed in the event of a vacancy; maximum security is maintained in all areas under their control; table appointments, including flower arrangements, are impeccable and that tables are set correctly; faults and defects are reported to Maintenance and actioned without delay; fair and equitable discipline is maintained in compliance with house or company regulations; all stocks and supplies are requested on time, correct stock levels maintained and stored under optimum conditions; regular stocktaking of all operating equipment happens at specified intervals; and that operating equipment is used properly and not abused. To ensure ongoing effective communication on their part, restaurant general managers attend meetings as required and hold staff meetings on a regular basis to impart information.

Restaurant general managers also: liaise with customers regarding special functions; maintain high standards of morale and personal appearance of all staff; investigate and action the causes of staff grievances; keep themselves aware of all statutory regulations affecting safety and ensure that any safety hazard is rectified; hold regular on-the-job training sessions to ensure that staff can perform their duties correctly; and give feedback on guest letters and comments.

Characteristically, restaurant general managers maintain a high degree of interest in self-development and display this by making suggestions for realistic improvements.
